3 Things You Can Do To Leave A Domestic Violence Situation

Joshua Alexander

If you have been a victim of domestic violence, you want to be able to get out of your house and to a safe place. While you are planning on getting out and when you are actually leaving can be a very dangerous time, especially if the person who hurt you is still living in the house with you. There are things that you can do that can help keep you safe and let you get out of that situation as safely as possible.

Talk to a Lawyer

If you are married, have children together, or have any kind of property together, you will want to start seeing an attorney as soon as you can. That way, you can start separating out your life from theirs as soon as possible. If you are planning on filing for divorce, you won't want to serve the papers to your spouse until you are out of the house and somewhere they can't easily get to you. The lawyer can also write up paperwork for a restraining order that can be filed at the same time as the divorce, or whenever you leave.

Domestic Violence Organizations

There are organizations which exist to help victims of domestic violence, and they will have resources that you can take advantage of. Those can include things like shelters, where you can get a lawyer who works with victims of domestic violence, and therapists to help you through this difficult time. Many of these organizations also have websites, but their websites are designed so that they don't show up on your history as a DV organization and they have emergency buttons that you can push that will immediately send your computer to a benign site in case your abuser shows up.

Hide Your Money

You want to be able to put your money in a safe place where your abuser can't get to it. This may mean starting a new bank account at a bank they don't use that isn't too near your home. It could also include having a trusted friend open an account for you and then they put your money in that account for you, or your friend can just hold it. Even if you can't get a whole lot of money set aside for yourself, every little bit can help and it will add up.

Domestic violence doesn't discriminate -- it can affect anyone. If you have been a victim of domestic violence and you want to get help, there are things that you can do that will help you get out of your situation so you can move forward with your life.

Hello, my name is Cassidy Shelby. Welcome to my website about criminal attorney support services. When my friends were involved in a serious criminal case, I remained by their side to offer my full support. Unfortunately, I was lost when it came to making the right legal choices for their situation. My friends enlisted the help of a dedicated criminal attorney to help them navigate this difficult process. I created this site to help everyone understand the services offered by these legal representatives. I invite you to visit my site each and every day to learn more about criminal attorney services.
